Doc Lovett formed the first lineup of the Blues Punks in 1989. Over the next 15 years Doc has led the band through several lineup changes, and a couple of 'hiatus periods', where the individual members went off to do other musical endeavors. In 2002 Doc finally brought things back, recruiting a strong rhythm section to round out the trio. Loads of Tampa Bay area gigs, and a critically acclaimed CD followed.
Currently the Blues Punks are Doc Lovett on Lead Vocals and Guitars, Bobby Wise on Bass and Vocals, and Sean Doyle on Drums and Vocals. When scheduling permits Chili provides some nasty Blues Harp, and Doc is currently tossing around the idea of adding a keyboard player, at least part time. Doc writes songs, and chooses covers that fit the basic Real Rock and Roll vision, Bobby and Sean bring their influences and ideas in, and it all goes into the pot to create the musical gumbo.
On the horizon is a CD of new material to be recorded in March at Panda Studios, with George Harris producing with Doc. The band will also be recording numerous live appearances through the year 2005, with the goal of releasing a live CD by years end.
The reason for this is that live is where the Blues Punks shine...surprise covers abound, segues from one unexpected song to another, spontaneous creation at every turn, Sean and Bobby have the gift of listening while they groove, anticipating Doc's interesting twists and turns, making every live gig a unique experience.
