“Bottom line – this band can jam.” (Fly Magazine) Devolver is a top-notch improvisational rock band based out of central Pennsylvania. Combining an eclectic mix of rock, funk, blues, fusion, and reggae, Devolver creates a uniquely full-bodied sound that is comparable to such artists as King Crimson, Frank Zappa, Phish, The Grateful Dead, Pink Floyd, and the Talking Heads. Blending these influences to create original material, this four-piece jam/rock outfit has built a strong fanbase in PA and surrounding areas.
Onstage, Devolver pushes the limits of even the most exploratory foundations of music. Every unique show produces a different arrangement of songs and intricately woven transitions. Each song has its own distinct features but takes new form as the band members contribute their own instrumentation, actively shaping the improvised sections into spontaneous musical efforts. The result is a bass-driven guitar-led frenzy of pure jam-rock at its finest.
As a four-piece setup, Devolver is slightly different from the average rock quartet. Kyle McKercher handles rhythm/lead guitar duties and vocals. Zach Lerman plays the bass guitar and also participates in the vocals. Rounding out the musical section is Ben Plesic, playing alto and tenor saxophone, flute, and recorder. Joshua Dewald holds down the foundation of the music, playing drums and percussion. All lyrical work is done by Shawn Myers, the band’s lyricist.
