Daynight
Band Biography

  • From: Miami, FL
  • No. of Members: 5
  • Year Established: 1993

DAYNIGHT As far back as I can remember I always wanted to be in a rock band. It might have been my brother’s Beatles records I would play when he wasn’t home, after one spin I was hooked. Having a dream and turning it into reality is never easy, but getting it done and the path to get there is half the fun anyway. Isn’t it? Luis Beyra (bass and so much more) left Cuba as a young boy and lived in Venezuela for several years before arriving in Miami for his high school years. An accomplished disc jockey, Luis is not a simple bass player by any means. His considerable talents include songwriting, back up vocals, guitars, samples, percussion and perhaps most importantly- the musical center that weaves all our styles and influences into one common sound. Juan Gil (lead vocals) also left Cuba as a young boy via the Mariel boatlifts. His family settled in New Jersey where Juan spent most of his impressionable teen years. Having absorbed a sincere appreciation of the blue collar sound and influence, he brought it back to Miami with him in his heart. Seeing things most of us miss, this songwriter’s story songs often tell us something about our own lives that we didn’t know. He is our one true voice.

Felix Rodriguez (drums and percussion) also hails from that tropical island called Cuba. The most recent addition to the band, Felix has quickly fit in and at the same time expanded our musical parameters. A grounded individual, he has already helped establish a new discipline to our grooves. Daynight believes that everything is about groove, so his is a most essential task. He also smells really good. Jorge Navarro (guitars and back up vocals) had been a friend of the band for years before actually joining, much to our benefit. Simply a stunning talent, his mere presence has had an immediate positive affect and has helped steer the band into new musical territories. Also a polished songwriter, his fresh perspectives and sound, as well as his leadership and comic qualities has elevated the band to new heights

Randolph Suarez (piano and keyboards), like Jorge, is a first generation Cuban American, and quite proud of it too. He is the founding member of the band and has seen it’s sound evolve from its humble beginnings to what it is today. One of the band’s four songwriters, his introspective style of composing differs from the others, thus is the charm of Daynight.

That charm is the different point of views each member has. The different skills each brings to the table and shares with the others. Each member has random influences ranging from the Beatles and U2 to all sorts of Jazz, Hip Hop, Rock, Reggae and everything in between. Daynight is hard and soft. Acoustic and electric. One groove. Daynight is coming, and this is only the dawn. Thanks for listening.
