While in 8th grade, a friend and student was travelling to New York City each weekend to jam onstage with bands like 'The Clash' at CBGB's and other Soho clubs. Not able to do this myself, one day in 1980 in the school library I wrote my first song 'Words that mean Nothing' It had a strong punk flavor to it. I enjoyed writing songs and had composed over 100 songs and been in several bands before leaving highschool. Entering college, I turned to solo works which explored more exotic lyrical topics and learnd to improvise and song-write on the spot. Not finding a subject of study which suited me I quit college and started the band Spyral in 1986 which allowed me to develop better lead guitar techniques.
Spyral broke up and I started a recording studio. This lead to a career in engineering which started in several recording studios and resulted in my own live audio company, Starground Audio. Then while mixing a live concert, a band invited me to play lead guitar for a song. Friends in the audience were shocked - 'Why don't you still play?' So I began playing solo in public until forming the band 'MIC' which played for about a year in the early 90's.
After MIC I concentrated on solo performances including songs based on topical writing with meaningful lyrics and some unique acoustic guitar techniques. With this new approach developed, I started a band with local musicians which played the new material. This band reformed to become 'This That and the Other' which also includes popular covers and music by the whole group.
I continue to perform solo and with 'This That and the Other'.
My current goal is to fluidly play the traditional and timeless jazz developed in the mid-1900's. I think I have my work cut out for me here - wish me luck!
