Daffodil is a heavy, melodic, power-pop trio from Austin, Texas. Since it's inception in March of 2001, Daffodil has become an influential presence on the Austin music scene and continues to expand its fanbase by writing, recording, and performing intelligent, expertly crafted rock music.
Scott Atkins (guitars, vocals) has become well-known for his sweeping, textural yet heavy guitar style. Atkins takes full advantage of the warmth and sustain inherent in his Les Paul and Paul Reed Smith guitars as well as the thick tube overdrive of his Fender Deville. Roger Glenn (drums, vocals) is master of the deep pocket groove. His skill and finesse (largely honed during his stint in the University of Texas drum corps) are awe inspiring. Band founder Upton Ethelbah (bass, vocals) locks in tight with Glenn and literaly becomes one with the rhythm section. His lead vocals are sweet and soft, and his gorgeous melodies create an expansive, colorful soundscape.
Currently Daffodil is in the process of recording their first full length CD and can be seen performing regularly at such Austin venues as the Metro, Momo's, the Saxon Pub, The Vibe, Steamboat, and the Red Room as well as other regional venues. Look for the CD to be released in early Summer, 2002.
