Formed in 1995 by Craig Roberts (vocals/guitars), Hal Month (vocals/keyboards - Ancient Harmony) and Jenny Nixon (vocals/drums - Deep Blue Sun) to perform/record original compositions and Grateful Dead cover material, DROP was originally formed as a quintet.
Beginning in August 1996, the band was slimmed down to a trio. Craig, Hal and Jenny toured up and down the east coast during the first half of 1997 before moving on to other projects.
Lewis Newmark (vocals/bass) joined with Craig at the end of 1997 and they performed as a duo. On New Year's Eve of 1998, Ted Norton (vocals/lead guitar - The Grapes) sat in with them and the magic began again. The band was fully reborn as DROP by autumn. DROP actually had four (that's right!) different drummers in 1999... just not usually at the same time. During the summer of 2000, Michael May (vocals/lead guitar - Deeper Roots) and Robert Newton (of JerryJam drum-circle fame, drums - Deeper Roots and Random Notes) joined ranks as full-time band members, which has prompted the return of some established DROP original songs as well as some new additions!
This year, the band doing what we love most... presenting our own music and celebrating the spirit of the Grateful Dead for 3+ hours per show at small- to medium-size venues and outdoor settings using our own sound system. We tend to be the only band appearing when we 'take over' a venue due to the nature of our shows, which feature lengthy improvisational passages. You just never really know what can, or will, happen at a DROP performance... we don't predetermine our set lists, choosing to simply go with the flow and tend to take requests from our 115+ song (and growing) repertoire.
