Dame is the best thing to come out of Brampton since the 410. Barely into high school, this indie act is as good at laying down THE ROCK as they are selling it. Three cute teens are nothing new, but these young ladies are busy earning their rightful title as The Future of Rock. Writing rattling guitar riffs, crushing drum grooves and anthemic songs, this trio serves up their hard driving tunes the way rock was meant to be presented, with a heaping helping of attitude and side order of blunt force trauma.Put plainly, Dame play big loud rock tunes with big loud hooks.
Their songwriting recipe is simple and effective. Take a big rock groove. Beat drums into submission. Sweeten with large chunks of Maiden inspired guitar riffs and bring to a boil. Let the guitars simmer and then add an equal measure of Chris Cornell laced, kick ass vocals. Wait three and a half minutes, and Bam! Another irresistible track tailor made to blow your speakers as you sing yourself hoarse along with the soaring vocals.
Katee (bass and vocals), Kayla (drums) and Faye (guitar) are 15, 14, and 16 years old, respectively. They came together on their own, aspiring to hang with the older local bands in Brampton's teeming indie rock scene. And in a little over a year and a half, Dame have written, practiced and worked hard to become a gigging, MTV Canada-featured, professional recording act, chosen as Brampton's Best Rock Band in the summer of 2006.
A paragraph from INTUNE Magazine feature articel for June 2006: Another Canadian band is well on the road to becoming one of my very favorites! Like their neighbor and predecessor (and my original favorite act), RUSH, Dame is another kick ass 3-piece band with power, hooks, grace, obvious talent and incredible drive. This time however, the band proving that The Great White North still rocks is an all female band whose members are just barely in High School! Starting right out with smarts, talent and the ability to write great songs Dame also has an added ingredient for success – their looks! Yup, beauty, brains and talent are an awesome combination that can take a band far in today's music scene. Don't let the looks come into play tho – just listen to the band and you'll even forget they are girls! This band can seriously lay down a groove and kick out some serious sound with ease. If there is a young band out there today that can thrust women into the spotlight in the rock scene it will be Dame!
