Cylix, formally know as Amphora (columbia,md), was formed sometime in 2001...we can't really remember the specifics. Our members come from other local bands ie... Our singer is the former guitar player of Oddzar, our bass player and I (guitar) came from Social Apathy, and our drummer came from Crimson Fury. At first our sound was really undeveloped. We each had different styles to bring to the table and we needed to learn to blend it all together. Once we halfway got our stuff straight we recorded our self financed album Empty Faces. This disc contains 10 of our songs at the time, 4 of which were on a previously recorded 4 track demo. Every song we write seemes to be a symbol of our maturation. Every sound is fueled by our life goal of being professional muscians.
Cylix consists of David Nenner on lead vocals and guitar, David Cannady on back-up vocals and lead guitar, Robert Wall on back up vocals, synth, and bass, and Robby Burns on drums, back-up vocals, and drum machine. Our musical training consists of a little bit of jazz, classical, heavy metal, industrial, techno, and a plethora of other types of music. What we think is unique is that we blend all of that together and what you hear isn't what you might expect.
The end of 2001 left us without many shows to play, but the ones we did were both enjoyable and profitable. The responce of the crowd to songs they had never heard before was overwhelming. For example one show in particular stands out for us the most. We were placed in a showcase alother with a bunch of other acts. Turns out the other acts were Rap and R&B oriented. Before we played we attempted to hand out cds but when they were told that it wasn't rap or r&b they rejected it immediately. Well to make a long story short, dispite all of our backstage fretting about how the crowd was going to react, when our 1 song set ended the place erupted with screams and applause. As soon as we left the stage we were mobbed for copies of our demo. The next day we recorded the Album.
