Cry Holy is a six piece AOR rock band from Seattle, Washington. We are influenced by many great performers before us, but forging a sound all our own. You may hear a Christian message in the music, but we have always believed that you don't have to compromise the music for the message. In other words, this isn't hymnals baby...it's rock and roll!
Guitar player James Henry and drummer Mike Maxwell began working together about 11 years ago under the moniker Sahara Rain. They produced such songs as 'Shadow Of My Wings' and 'Streets Of Gold'. They recorded at a place called Starlake Studio with a man named Al Sieg producing. The Cry Holy songs were recorded in the same studio with the same producer. About 5 and a half years ago, Vocalist Randy Loran came across 'Shadow Of My Wings' in New York. He liked the song, and called James and Mike wondering if they would be interested in getting together. He moved to Seattle shortly thereafter. Afterwards, his brother Scott moved here from Illinois. A friend of Randy's, Erik Routson lived in the Seattle area, so he hooked up with the guys too. They needed a keyboard player, and Erik's best friend Gary Reems happened to be one. Cry Holy was complete.
The songs: 'I Wanna Be Free', 'Masquerade Ball', 'History' and at least seventeen other songs followed with this lineup. Scott Loran has since quit to focus on his career and family. He has been replaced by rhythm and lead guitar player Steve Harper. One of Cry Holy's proudest moments had to be when their were named the Grand Prize Winners of the 1998 Washington State Christian Music Talent Contest.
As of February 2002, Cry Holy has two studio albums (Alienation and Ten From Two) and one live album (Livin' Live) behind them. A third studio album is currently in the works and slated for release in the spring of 2002.
