Crab Smasher was formed in February 2002. Consisting of two of its original three members, Crab Smasher has expanded itself musically and geographically. What started out 4 years ago has greatly grown and matured. Crab Smasher is quickly becoming one of the bands that you just have to see to fully understand what they're about. They take nothing for granted and strive in everyway to improve and provide what they find most enjoyable in life.
Crab Smasher consists of Grant Hunter on vocals and electronics and Nicholas French on guitar and keyboard. Each individual has had prior musical training and consist of pop, rock, ambient, noise, punk, psychedelic, and electonica styles. All this is mixed and carefully blended to give the distinquished sound of Crab Smasher.
The year 2006 saw the some major changes for the band. Newcastle is the band's current headquarters, and a nice following has developed there. Crab Smasher has performed on the well-known Kevin Bull's Coast-FM radio show and featured sit-ins from Marnie Vaughn and local guitar hero Michael Liestins. The band also opened for (and jammed with) Kevin Blechdom and the outrageous Zappa tribute band D Yellow Swans in '05. The biggest change was the loss of drummer Chloe Russell to family life, and her subsequent sometimes-replacement. After an extensive search that brought inquiry from around the nation, the band stayed close to home and chose Nick Senger, originally from Castings. Nick's experience was mostly as a solo act but his powerful voice and Southern yet groovy presence fit perfectly.
