Cosmic Dust Devils
Band Biography

  • From: Austin, TX
  • No. of Members: 6
  • Year Established: 1999

The Cosmic Dust Devils are an energetic, good-time, danceable, foot-stomping band, appealing to people who like rock/folk/country/blues. This band has a recognizable sound, incredible original songwriting, solid musicians and an incomparable style…a bit “cosmic cowboy”, a bit punk, and a bit bluegrass with a lot of soul. Fronted by three singers, they deliver the message of “back porch spiritualism”, testifying from the oldest dancehalls in Texas to the Kerrville Folk Festival, and every honky-tonk in-between.

The band's line-up consists of a brooding, long-haired, working-class singer/songwriter/guitarist; an amazing guitarist nicknamed “The Tornado”; a real quiet dude laying down serious bass; and the “Side Dishes”: 2 hippie chicks who sing backups with attitude, yet take turns stepping into the spotlight, as different as country and swamp-rock…they take turns kickin’ ass, and still blending beautifully as a groove-grass trio, a rock ‘n’ roll band, a Texas-styled Fleetwood Mac…whatever the song calls for.

There is a thread which connects the Cosmic Dust Devils' tapestry of music woven from the fabric of America. Called “Farm to Market Rock ‘n’ Roll”, this thread winds through Texas pride, Southern boogie, the cabins in the Great Smoky Mountains to Port Aransas’ hammocks on the Gulf Coast with an honesty and soul that will bring you to your knees. As soft as the ghostly whispers of fallen soldiers at Gettysburg, to the scratchy Victrolas of the Depression era, to the romping “Damn, (I Had a Real Good Time!)”, (the ultimate fan-appreciation anthem), this band is unlike anything you’ve ever heard before…destined to break out regionally, to be embraced nationally, cutting a path a mile wide in any direction they choose to go.

The Cosmic Dust Devils have already been receiving awards from their fans. Here's just a few...Awarded 'Band of the Year' by the Hill Country Music Awards 2000...Kevin Higgins (main songwriter for CDD) received 'Album of the Year' for his solo release, 'Dark Side of the Barn'... Austin Mayor Kirk Watson proclaimed August 17, 2000 as 'Cosmic Dust Devils Day in Austin'...the band is invited to perform on the main stage at the Kerrville Folk Festival 2001...www.texasrebelradio.com continues to play the band's music on regular rotation, as an enthusiatic group of fans calling themselves 'Stormchasers' begin to spread the word about this raging band. A new CD is in the can, ready to be released in February 2002. And there's more to come...
