Compound F is a complex blend of chemicals formed together to make a mind-altering drug. Used in the early 1900’s by institutes for the criminally insane, it was created to pacify violent patients. As research continued they found that the drug was causing the patients harm, even death. The band, Compound F, is much the same using a blend of heavy vocals, multi-layered sampling / keyboards, driving guitars and machine like percussion to pound into your mind music that liberates and pacifies a disturbed psyche.
In August 99’ Scott Whitehurst (drummer), and Jason Owens (guitar) endeavored to form a band that was not like any other. Drowned by a local scene of Rapcore and cover bands they proceeded to find dedicated musicians with the same design as them. First, came Sean Rhew, a blistering guitar player they acquired from another local group. Second, they recruited Richard Doss through a mutual friend to lead up the bass. Next came Richard’s brother Mike Doss to throw down his warped sounds of keyboards and sampling. Now all that was left was a vocalist. After trying out a handful of people they came to the decision of J.L. Walker, a childhood friend of Mike and Richard. After some time had passed the band felt something was missing. That’s when they recruited a long time friend, Josh Browning (turntable, sound f/x,and sampling), to the complete the mixture.
After a year of being locked away practicing, Compound F broke into the local scene with the objective to establish a fan base by distributing the music through CD’s and internet and also building interest by playing intense stage shows. So far the effort has paid off with increased crowds, merchandise sales, radio airplay. The band has also had the oppurtunity to open for several touring act such as, the Genitorturers, Brand New Sin, Flaw and Soil along with playing shows at America’s largest night club Club La Vela.
With an extreme stage presence and their demo they hope to fuel a fire that could spread across the world.
