Ciaran Flynn is an Irish songwriter usually seen around the world with a guitar in one hand and a boarding pass in the other.
The people and places that Ciaran encounters on his travels feature in a lot of his songs; often presented as hero or sanctuary. His version of political and social commentary is communicated on a personal level where his songs reflect intimate moments in his own life or adopt the circumstance of others close to him.
Early musical influences came from Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Andy Irvine, Nick Drake, Donovan, Woody Guthrie, Tom Paxton, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, The Frames, Planxty and Luke Kelly.
In the summer of 2003 Ciaran recorded “Halflight”, an eight-track glimpse into his relentless sleepless projects. The songs addressed “human potential, self discovery, hope, denial, sleeplessness, determination, humiliation, love … lost and realised“.
Only weeks after committing his recordings to copyright he packed up for a trip around the world to reconcile some burning ambitions and embark on others.
Back home in 2004 Ciaran introduced Christophe Capewells’ violin arrangements to his live sets, ultimately delivering the songs to wider audiences and earning a new level of acclaim in Ireland and abroad.
Though based in Dublin's inner city, Ciaran can be found performing in Ireland, New York, Sweden, Norway, Scotland, England and beyond; all the time writing songs and dreaming up his next journey.
