With a home base on the North Carolina coast and a history rooted in the tradition of late- night family jams, Catfish Lane's musical prowess goes from one end of the musical spectrum to the other- from Texas Country, to traditional blues, to full-blown psychedelia, all the way to rock and roll and back.
The bands front man and guitarist is Justin Fox. At the age of 18 he has already been playing music professionally for 3 years. Experimenting with the guitar since the age of twelve, Justin has played relentlessly to forge his own style. He honed his skills listening to the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Muddy Waters, Hubert Sumlin, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. At the age of 15 he started playing in his first band the Bloodhounds. Griffin Guitars granted him an endorsement at the age of 17 and now at the age of 18 Justin stands poised to breath new life into a genre of music most have taken for granted - rock and roll. Justin is writing new songs on a weekly basis and listening to everything he can get his ears on. From the Black Crowes and Rolling Stones to Zeppelin and Humble Pie, he takes a little form all to make a lot.
Bringing the bottom end to this three piece is Dave Morse. Receiving his first bass guitar at the age of 13, along with a CD of Charlie Mingus, his parents told him to 'roll with it'. Coming from a musical family Dave grew up listening to such greats as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Parliament Funkadelic, and Sam & Dave. While studying bass in his high school years, Dave was introduced to some of the more current greats including Victor Wooten, Les Claypool and Stanley Clarke. Learning and loving his instrument quickly became his life's passion. Two years of music study at Western Carolina University and playing in bands such as Malfunktion, Mars Capone and Redwood has given Dave the opportunity to share the stage with a few of today's most well known musicians. Joe Bonamassa, Alice Cooper, C.O.C, DMB, Rage Against The Machine and Pearl Jam are just a few of the bands that Dave has shared the bill with. Listing some of his influences as Led Zeppelin, The Black Crowes, Rolling Stones, and the Beatles, Dave's musical style fits well with Catfish Lane's back to the roots approach to rock and roll.
Deep in the pocket sits Jeremy Summers. His natural ability to weave in and out of charging bass lines and scorching guitar riffs takes second chair only to his almost precognitive awareness of his band mates. His soulful style and solid beats anchor this dynamic trio. He began banging the drums at age eight and never stopped. After polishing his craft scholastically and playing with every musician he could find, he began gigging with My Kat Randi. This Raleigh, N.C. band allowed Jeremy to cut his proverbial touring and studio teeth. My Kat Randi enjoyed college radio success and shared the bill with groups like Wide Spread Panic, Jam Pain Society, Johnny Quest and The Patty Duke Syndrome. Members of My Kat Randi went on to form Neckbone Chevelle, which also had success in the mid to late 1990's. Some of Jeremy's influences are Led Zeppelin, Primus, Fishbone, James Brown, Pink Floyd, and Jane's Addiction. When asked of his favored drummers he lists John Bonham, Buddy Rich, Tim Alexander, Bill Ward, and Mitch Mitchell in his top five. Jeremy's past bands enveloped all of the above styles. He definitely gives the band an edgy and stylized sound that defines them as unique. Fulfilling the dream of one day collaboratively writing and performing his own style of music, Jeremy's heart now rests on the backbone of Catfish Lane.
