Captain Soularcat is a five-piece rock 'n' roll band that originated in Rome, GA in August of 2000. With their roots deeply embedded in blues and rock, Soularcat combines the old and the new to create an incredibly unique sound, reaching the ears of both young and old. Influences range from the Allman Brothers to John Coltrane, from Carlos Santana to Elmore James, or even the Meters and Paul Simon. They have a large list of original songs and a variety of covers as well. 'The band may not win any awards for breaking musical boundaries—-they fit neatly into that funky southern blues-rock vein—-but their original songs, especially 'Three Rivers Point,' which would sound fine on any Gov't Mule album, are outstanding and set them apart from many other similarly accomplished bands.' (Mick Skidmore, Relix Magazine - Read full article here.)Scott Warren (bass, vocals) was a founding member of the band Cool Beans and has played around the Southeast for over 6 years, spreading his captivating songwriting far and wide. Benji Shanks (lead guitar) has gained lots of attention in the last couple of years doing studio work and playing with Count M'Butu. Benji was the lead guitarist on the self-titled Bluestring Album of which one song was recently nominated for a Jammy Award. Before he joined Captain Soularcat, Matt Williams (guitar, vocals) was a founding member of Atlanta's Dysfunktion Junktion. He has been an active musician for the past five years. Gaurav Malhotra (percussion, vocals), a student of Count M'Butu, has toured and performed with bands such as Ancient Harmony, Blueground Undergrass, Futureman, The Stained Souls, Widespread Panic, ekoostik hookah, and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band. Travis Cline (drums) has been rocking around the Southeast for a while. He brings versatility and plenty of spirit to the table. Travis was a member of Two Fisted Cool and Cornfusion before joining Captain Soularcat. See and hear Captain Soularcat all over the country in 2004. Already confirmed for festivals like High Sierra and Joshua Tree Music Fest in California, the band is nailing its first West Coast tour and plans a fall tour of the Northeast. Look for their upcoming studio cd later this fall produced by The Reverend Jeff Mosier.
