Candy Channel are a four-piece indie rock pop band fronted by female lead vocalist and guitarist Sherrie Ashton. The other band members are John Harris on lead guitar, Duke Ashton on bass, and Rob Murray-Mason on drums. The foursome have just completed their debut self-titled album on their own label. The album is receiving rave reviews locally and the band are busy with promotional events and gigs.
Worcester's top music fanzine, Rhythm & Booze (will.munn@virgin.net), has this to say about their album:
Album Of The Issue: Candy Channel-Candy Channel
'Every so often I get sent an album that is just so damn good that it doesn't leave my hi-fi for very long and this debut album by Candy Channel is one
of those (Pigfish being another recent one). Now as usual readers of our
humble 'zine will have realised I am rather partial to punk and really heavy
music so this is even more unusual as Candy Channel are not punk and they're
certainly not heavy. So why has this album been on repeat play you may ask?
And the answer to that is quite simply it is an album that is full of
brilliant catchy songs, has no fillers and the musicians are of a very high
quality. Ah but this isn't telling you very much about the band or their
sound. Well Candy Channel are a female fronted four-piece indie rock band
(emphasis on rock) who have managed to put together an album of ballads,
indie anthems and rockers. The diversity of the album shows of the bands
musical ability and is an excellent showcase of Sherrie's vocal range. On
each listen I have had a different favourite, sometimes it's the slow
burning indie anthem Wildflowers other times it's the ballad-like Deep In ME
and when I need some rock it's the uptempo belter The Sweet Avenger. No
matter what the style of the track it's always full of emotion. I could be a
lazy journalist and compare Candy Channel to other bands, but that would not
be doing them justice. All I going to do is sum the album as a really
enjoyable listen that fans of both indie music and rock will find that'll
suck them in the songs are great, the playing is great and the singer has a
wonderful passionate voice. I suggest that you investigate Candy Channel,
they could well help give the local scene a much-needed boot up the
backside.
Buy the album, you won't be disappointed - and check them out live.'
