CONFLICT IN THE SKY
Band Biography

  • From: NY, NY
  • No. of Members: 3
  • Year Established: 2006

The origins of this band started in the beginning of 2007 with my guitar and a laptop equipped with FL Studio. I had never written a full song, knew ZERO about recording, and pretty much didn't know anybody that could help me….but I REALLY wanted to start a band. Not just a band that plays the bar down the block either – a band that would eventually “make it.”That's kind of tough being only one person with little experience, but I knew I had to start somewhere. That being said, I've always been a fairly creative person with a good ear for music, and I'd been playing the guitar for 10 years, so it's not like I was starting with nothing. So I began to write. Guitar parts, samples, lyrics, drum loops (although the drum loops kinda sucked). I wanted other people to be in this band with me, but I couldn't find people that were as committed (I tend to become obsessed when I get into something), so I did everything myself. Since I figured some stuff out recording-wise and was able to do most things myself, there were no more excuses. This allowed me to keep moving things forward while trying to find the right people.I hadn't really looked for other people (beyond a few friends) because I was really concentrating on writing material. Then in April 2007 and I got a random friend request on my personal myspace from “NY Drummer.” This turned out to be Chito. What made it random was that I really didn't have anything in my profile about being in a band or looking for a drummer. I think he was just trying to hit on me (weird). The fact that he played drums was just a coincidence.I saw from his profile he drumming in a band, but always looking for new stuff to get involved with, so I e-mailed him a couple of the songs I was workin on (one of them was Robots). 2 days later he sent me back the song with drums on it.We continued to work over e-mail for the next few months, putting together around 6 or 7 songs. Not too bad for 2 guys who had never even talked on the phone (or even on instant message!). I later found out his other band was pretty much dead in the water, so I asked him if he wanted to be part of Conflict In The Sky. He was interested. In August 2007, we finally decided to meet in person (sounds like some creepy internet date). We met at his buddy (and former bandmate) Al's house because Al had a studio, and also played bass. Al was into the music and was good at his instrument, so I was pretty happy. It only took a few more weeks after that for me to realize these guys were in. They had the musical talent and the ambition I was looking for. Most importantly – they clearly LOVED music. A lot of people can play, but if it's just a hobby, the results don't come out the same.So here we are now at the end of October. We posted this website and are working on finishing up 4/5 songs for an EP. Despite having more than enough material for a full-length album, we decided to start with an EP while we attempt to gather a fan base.
