While together for only two years, Bumba's Creation has been stirring up quite a buzz around the Denver area. Drawing upon a wide variety of musical influences--including Miles Davis, Steve Kimock, Herbie Hancock, Grateful Dead, Bruce Hornsby, P-Funk and the Disco Biscuits to name a few--they have already created an impressive list of original compositions along with a steady mix of intelligent cover songs. The band's philosophy is simple: play great music every night by playing the material in a different way and creating new jams every time they get on stage. Some nights may be filled with funkdafied dance rhythms, while other jams may propel the listener to the outer limits via spacey-electro grooves, or the jams may invoke a dream like state with intertwined melodies, and other jams may unvail evil fuisonated funk. No matter what styles reveal themselves, one thing is certain--it will be unique, twist your mind with intellectual melodies, harmonies, and solos, and keep your body moving all night.
While Bumba's Creation is only a quartet, their sound is unlike any other. Guitarist Dave Shirk weaves his unmistakable melody lines around the eerie textural soundscapes of keyboardist Jon Wirtz, who is a recent addition to the band. Laying the groundwork for this harmonic interplay is drummer Darrick Jones, providing deep pocket-funk grooves that are sure to make any ass shake. Filling out the rhythm section is veteran bassist Jack 'Wolf' Rieter. With the ability to play as funky as Bootsy Collins or as smooth as Victor Wooten, Rieter has played with countless bands around the east and west coast throughout his lengthy career. The collective members have shared the stage with bands such as Mountain of Venus, Ekoostik Hookah, Liquid Soul, RAQ, and Smokestack as well as many others. They have also played national stages like Quixote's True Blue, The Goat, The Starlight, Sancho's Broken Arrow, Utopia Cafe, Track's, Herman's Hideaway, Dillon Pub, State Armory, Cactus Jack's, and many many more. Bumba's Creation is anxious to spread their groove to new audiences across the country.
