Breakway was formed back in August 1999 when lead guitarist/backing vocalist Mike Guzzardo joined singer/guitarist Wayne Yarbrough and drummer Matt Fox. They got together in Wayne's garage and began writing and rehearsing material to create a new sound of alternative rock.
After going through several bassists for the next 2 years, gaining live experience, and recording demos, Breakway solidified their lineup with bassist/backup vocalist, Joe Timpanaro. The great moods of the distorted melodic guitars and catchy melodies is enough to get anyone addicted after one listen. The 3 part harmonies give Breakway their unique vocal tone.
In 2001, Breakway began playing a series of regulated shows at Bayonne's DAWGHOUSE LOUNGE, including their own headlined show that earned a great turnout. They also won their way into the summer's Warped Tour, playing on a side stage and gaining the respect and attention of a crowd of 150. Breakway has sold many copies of their demos, recorded at Upstart Studios in Hoboken, NJ. As for making waves, Breakway has attracted interest from Atlantic and MCA Records.
