Booby Trap
Band Biography

  • From: Phoenix, AZ
  • No. of Members: 6
  • Year Established: 2001

booby trapn. An explosive device designed to be triggered when an unsuspecting victim touches or disturbs a seemingly harmless object. A situation that catches one off guard; a pitfall. Booby Trap, originally, Disturbing the Peace, is a Phoenix based, Hard Hitting, Funkin, Groovin, Heavy, Alternative, Jazz, Punk band currently menacing the Arizona Club Scene.Their First CD, titled Broken, was independently recorded and released in 2001, with the help of Will and Eve Craig of Chill Productions. Saying things they shouldn’t and playing what others wouldn’t, the band broke about every rule to song writing written. The next two years was spent playing anywhere they could and writting and recording their second cd, titled Hands On Experience, which was released January 2nd, 2004. Currently Booby Trap is back in the studio, with sound engineer Roy Walker, working on their third cd, due to be released in early 2005.

Scott Hauk is the singer, bass player, keyboardist, and beer drinker for the band. Scott has played, for over 14 years, with numerous local musicians and drank for nearly seven years. Influences include Primus, Sublime, Bloodhound Gang, and Cake. In his spare time Scott likes to pickle his liver, spank the monkey and take moonlight walks around the block with his dog G funk. Jesse Bishop is the guitarist for the band. Jesse joined the Booby Trap crew in Sept of 2002 when he was won in a bad bet, in a poker game, between Jesse’s dad and Scott. Scott won. Or did he? His influences include Yoko Ono, Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Fred Durst. All though he denys it.Dave Schad is the powerhouse behind the drums. Playing for over two decades in Phoenix, Dave has obtained respect and incredible skills to go along with it. His disciplined, solid grooves set the foundation for the band, and leave the drummers who played before him feeling slightly inadequate. In Dave's spare time, he sleeps. Ricardo Aguilar is the saxophone and conga player. Ricardo has been playing professionally for over 37 years, and is the longest lasting member of Booby Trap. He has studied everything from Latin to punk to blues, and is now studying Celtic music and stand up comedy.Fucking Mike Across the Street Ingram on back up vocals. Mike is the grunge of the band. Mike's raspy, pissed of vocals compliment the songs and allow Scott to take a beath. In Mike's spare time he smokes crack, all though we do not condone it.Sound Engineer Roy Walker is the man in the shadows, patiently waiting to record anything the band creates and providing psychiatric advice and counseling.Fat Bastard: Well what can we say about F.B. The body jam will scar you for life.

After having heard these guys' CD I had to check out Booby Trap while I was in town last week. Finally a reason to like Phoenix!! Although I liked what I heard on their CD and from the downloads at their site, it was nothing compared to their live show!!! The songs are fun - and the playing is tight! They reminded me of a fuller sounding and more diverse Violent Femmes. I honestly don't know what they're still doing in Phoenix - but while they're still there you have got to go see them. Then you can one day say 'I saw them when...'Overall Booby Trap is a band that takes their music very seriously, while not taking themselves seriously at all. Their music is wicked fun to listen to, and their live shows are a solid kick of adrenaline. Not too often am I really impressed - they blew me away. I only wish I lived closer so that I could catch another show soon. Thanks for a great night out guys (and gal!!!!)Jenifer GirlPosse.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Booby Trap's musical style is all over the map. Refusing to be categorized, within their sound you can hear rock, funk, alternative, ska, psychodelic, punk, and even bits of heavy metal and rap. While each song is different that the one before and after, they all embody a cohesive sound that is unique to Booby Trap, a credit both to the musical talents of the band members and lead singer Scott Hauk's ability to keep the lyrics interesting, if not outright funny. They're the definate must-see band in the Valley today. Russ Vallelunga-----------------------------------------------------------------------------Booby Trap - “Hands On Experience” - 20044 starsAbout eight months ago while in Phoenix, AZ, I had the privilege of seeing a local band by the name of Booby Trap. As the four of them were setting up onstage I thought, “What the hell is this?” Bongos, a saxophone, drums, bass, keyboard, and guitar, how were they gonna pull that off? What I heard was the coolest, funkiest grooves I’d ever imagined. Hands On Experience has captured their fun loving style with songs like “I Love Your Mom” and “Shut Up.” Hours later I am still singing, “Stuck” and “Leaving Phoenix.” This is the perfect cd to just throw in the car stereo and cruise.
