In the beginning, Jim Tomlinson (Lead vocal, Acoustic Guitar) began his musical career as a one man show with his acoustic guitar. After hosting an Open Mic Night at Ricks Café in Starkville, Mississippi, Joe Lowder, (Bass, Vocals), approached Jim about his music and insisted on starting a band. The two then asked Michael McGrath (Drums) from Law of Nature to play with them. After struggling to find the right guitarist to fit there sound, they hit a grand slam when Jamie Blanton (Lead Guitar) joined the trio. After releasing there CD in August of 2001, the band felt like it was missing something, so they asked Walton Jones (Piano, Organ, Vocals) to join the group. Thus, the completion of Blue Tattoo.
Blue Tattoo recorded their debut CD in April 2001. Their CD is a short and sweet mix of eight original songs written by the band. After playing together for a little over a year the band has not only gained national exposure playing with national acts like Bob Marley's original Wailer's, Sister Hazel, Charlie Mars, and North MS Allstars. They also have received national radio airplay on ESPN Radio 930 during sports radio talk shows, college radio, and other various radio stations throughout the south. Each band member in Blue Tattoo has his own personal musical preference which brings out the best in all of there songs. You can expect to hear anything from jazz to reggae and blues to rock all in one song. Having sold more than 1,200 copies of their first CD, out of there back seat, Blue Tattoo will be heading back to the Studio in the next few months to record a new CD.
In April 2002, Blue Tattoo won a Battle of the Bands contest in Jackson, Mississippi and was selected to perform at Jubilee Jam in May 2002.
