Bleedstreet was started back in 1999 as the working name given to the musical collaborations of guitarist Dave Wagner and drummer
Rick Favale. Back in the early 90's Dave and Rick were partners in crime in a San Diego funk/metal band called Doctor X. One of the bands best tunes live was a little ditty called 'Bleedstreet'. Doctor X
called it quits in 1993 but the song title lived on.
Dave and Rick stayed in touch over the years and in 1997 they started writing some new material. This time around however they were stepping out of their usual roles as guitarist/drummer. Rick started doing vocals and Dave began playing bass, keyboards and singing as well. The new material turned out to be quite different than anything they had done together before and the seeds for what would become Bleedstreet were now planted.
Dave moved out of the San Diego metro area and built a recording studio at his new home in the mountain town of Julian California. This was in 1998. Rick was now involved with three other projects. Kitten with a Whip, The Roach Bone Band and The Rick Famiglietti Group. Dave and Rick continued to record demo material but it was not a full time project for either. In the spring of 2000 Dave upgraded the studio to the digital age and started writing a wide variety of music for what would become the CD entitled Dave Wagner's Bleedstreet. Dave wrote and played all the instruments on the disc as well as doing most of the vocal work. Rick sang lead/backing vocals on two of the tracks.
The Cd was released om July 10th 2000 on both Shaymus and
MP3.Com. After a short break from recording Dave decided that he wanted to use a full fledged band for the next cd. He set his sights on recruiting some of the best players in the Southern California area. Doctor X's former manager Mike Marriott of Shamrock Management was brought back into the picture and Mike suggested guitarist
Brandon Bullard to Dave. Brandon joined Rick and Dave in the fall of 2000 and the trio started recording. Brandon's song writing and vocal talents added a new texture to the bands sound. The next member to join the Bleedstreet fold was Bassist Bill Bolzer whom Dave had been in a short lived band in the late 1980's. In February 2001 and three fourth's of the way thru the recording Rick decided he was not going to be able to finish the project due to college commitments. He would not be able to rejoin the band till May so Dave found a replacement for the drumming duties in one Stephen Shannon. Once Rick is done with his college work he and Steve will both be playing drums/percussion on live dates. The next Cd entitled Bleedstreet Roots will be released in the fall of 2001 and fans of the band are in for a treat. The cd's mix of Rock,Rap,Metal,Funk and more will leave Bleedstreet fan's old and new quite satisfied. So there ya have it. The history of Bleedstreet in a nutshell.
