The Blackbird Pond name was created when one of the band members viewed a huge amount of black birds covering a street. There were so many birds that the street looked like a large dark lake/pond. The band memeber walked to the birds to get a closer look. When he did, the birds did not fly away, the birds just made a path for him to cross. It was so spooky he felt the birds were watching him.

This type of gathering of black birds never happened again. This experience inspired the band member to create a sound that is simple, confident and commanding. A sound and attitude of southern Virginia.
