Ben Storm Band
Band Biography

  • From: Oakland, CA
  • No. of Members: 3
  • Year Established: 2004

Ben Storm is a Chicago native (Jan '04 Berkeley, CA transplant) singer/songwriter strongly inspired by rock, folk, and blues styles. His musical influences range from Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Chris Cornell, Ben Harper, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Muddy Waters, Paul Butterfield, and beyond. Utilizing a unique mix of bluesy vocals, harmonica, and acoustic guitar, Ben brings new life to modern folk/rock music.

Ben's most recent project has been the recording of his latest demo release 'North Avenue Sessions'. This debut solo project was created on a simple four-track recorder, utilizing his talents to play all of the instruments in addition to the lead vocals. The vocal harmonies were a collaboration with Amy Billharz, together creating a unique depth and contrast to the sound. Each song is a well-crafted slice of life, reflecting the paths he's traveled.

Ben uses music to tell stories on aspects of life in an abstract way. He now has nine additional songs that he will be recording using computer software for higher quality sound. The resulting product will be his first solo LP titled 'Momentary Dream'. Ben plans to have this completed by Summer 2005.Music has been a part of Ben's life since childhood. Born into a musical family, he learned to appreciate acoustic/folk music at an early age. The first out of his four siblings to pick up an instrument, his original love was harmonica, and then came the guitar. In and out of bands throughout his teen years, Ben developed his talents to play the drums. For a time he held the drummer's throne in a local folk/rock group. Later, after the band dismantled and reformed, Ben relinquished his spot behind the kit and began singing.

This new reincarnation of his talent brought about success. His band, The Blues Monks, began to amass a sizeable Chicagoland following. Ben's 'fiery delta blues' vocals and 'wailing harp' lent a raw emotion to the band's eclectic blend of blues, rock, and funk. Over two years the band played over a hundred festivals and regional/local shows (e.g. including Chicago venues: The Double Door, Elbo Room and The Cubby Bear). However, the members of the band eventually went their separate ways to pursue other creative projects. Ben's determination and passion to create music led him to develop his own musical vision, reflected in his first demo and soon to be released LP 'Momentary Dream'.
