From the past up to today, the state of Massachusetts has harbored a number of musical acts that hit the mainstream with intense force. From Aerosmith to Godsmack, Massachusetts has been a big source of musical talent. Today, the local music scene in Massachusetts holds now the most musical acts than it has ever in it's history. Among the many lies the hard rock / metal trio, Backwoods.
The band is comprised of vocalist / guitarist Steve Vitiello, bassist Mike Pavao, and drummer Dan Marusa. The trio collaboartes to create music reminiscent of the heavy melody that defines The Deftones, the catchy riffs that established Godsmack, and the vocal assault that is characteristic of Mudvayne.
The band came about in early 1999 beginning with Dan and Steve. They quickly picked up the 3rd piece necessary to complete the musical collage. They began performing as much as they could, wherever and whenever they could. A quick reputation grew around their home Worcester County area. Soon after, problems sprouted and their bassist left the band. 'It seemed liked ever since the band formed, we've had problems with finding the right bassists to fill the void' states Marusa. They held tryouts, and after over a year of searching for a permanent member, the two became distraught. Then, Mike Pavao came along. The band saw that he was finally the 3rd piece to re-connect the band to the musical world. Writing, re-writing, and performing as much as they can today, with airplay on radio and some great reviews, the band doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon.
Within the growing number of musical groups and artists in the Massachusetts area lies Backwoods. A hard rock / metal trio getting their music to as many people as possible through constant writing, re-writing, and performing. This is what they love to do, and this is where they find their harmony.
