BACKMASK: August 1, 2004Conceived in the house where much of Led Zeppelin’s catalog including “Stairway To Heaven,” “Kashmir,” and “The Immigrant Song” were written and recorded, BACKMASK was born. Second-generation guitarist Shane McFee, son of legendary guitarist John McFee (Doobie Brothers, Clover) leads the Power trio BACKMASK.
This California-based trio defines the expansion of Hard Rock. Emerging in 2002, BACKMASK set out to forge a new sound, combining infectious vocal harmonies, electronic soundscapes and complex orchestration with aggressive, blistering, dynamic music.
In the summer of 2002, BACKMASK released their first promotional demo single 'Tomorrow Is Dead,' which reached #1 on the MP3.com metal charts, and #33 on the MP3.com mainstream charts, ahead of many chart-topping major label artists. In 2003, the song was featured as Track Of The Day on GarageBand.com, and entered the top 10.
BACKMASK is currently in the studio, recording their debut album with producer Kurt Howell at the helm. The self-titled outing will be available in the fall of 2004, in CD and downloadable formats. While the band is hard at work recording, they are actively playing the local rock circuit in Southern California. (See http://www.backmask.com/ for updates). The album represents the culmination of two years of songwriting, experimentation and growth, featuring: 'Feed The Enemy,' 'Tomorrow Is Dead' and 'Awaken.'
