Atomic Brothers
Band Biography

  • From: montreal, Canada
  • No. of Members: 8
  • Year Established: 2002

The Atomic Brothers play R & dB, a musical style with many facets but one that can be summed up as such; R & B, soul and hip hop using continuously developing thoughts on sound, electronics and consciousness.  It strives to make people move, think and act.  Move their bodies at shows and clubs, think a little about how people live and what anyone can do to make this world happen, and act upon all these thoughts and movements.   They draw their influences from any number of sources,  Outkast to Jimi Hendrix, Jamiroquai to Ben Harper, Ani DiFranco to Squarepusher. The Atomic Brothers wish to achieve the sounds of the club with the songs of the coffee house and run every atmosphere in between, never losing their voice.

Mikey - Vocals, Trumpets, Writing, ProductionA well-rounded  Montreal burnout, more relentless then most. As frequent attendee of club nights, concerts, music school and sound school, remains ready for the R&B sound revolution.Kweku - Vocals, Words, VibeAn independent word and vocal artist who lends his gifts to the R&dB sound. Kweku Kwofie has the confidence and delivery of ten performers and the head to handle the expectations.Alexis - Drums, IdeasA rare researcher, purveyor & developer of the various forms of beats which have arose in the past twenty years.  Abundance of ideas needs to be extracted weekly to prevent overburn.Andrew - Trombones, HornsA young veteran of R&B and soul bands across the northern hemisphere, and scholar of all soul music.  Andrew is an untapped resource of drack horn lines for the R&dB sound.Jason - SaxesImported from his many travels, including circus and stage. This jazz manster tames himself for the R&dB sound only to freak out at solo time.Reuben - Keyboards, Sonic GuruReuben's knowledge of sound, audio and electronics is now approaching encyclopedic and is proving to be an essential resource in the R&dB quest. Kickin key licks included.Mikael - GuitarsA shredder who also finds himself laying back to play grooves, Mikael brings nufunk to the R&dB mix. After consuming much of the neo-soul palate, Mikael now provides his own dishes.Owen - Basses, Beat Production, ThoughtOwen is not a man of many words as he is quite occupied with the world's more complex equations. His bass lines and beats have been meticulously derived from inspiration and influence.

The debut album for the Atomic Brothers is called Initellibus: Seven Steps to Complete Abstraction for the Relentless Burnout, independently released on September 1, 2003.  A burnout is often seen as a character who has indulged in too much and has become slow and unresponsive to the world.  One who has no ability to engage in the general mish mash of officialities that society demands.  The relentless burnout on the other hand has received the same input of indulgences and officialities but who has somehow managed to rage back and communicate the thoughts that come out of such a drubbing.  It is the voice of the relentless burnout that the Atomic Brothers represent.  In the Atomic Brothers music the sounds that the relentless burnout consumes, drawn from hip-hop, R&B, reggae, house and drum& bass, are used with the thoughts the relentless burnout runs through his or her mind daily; 'Why won't these people stop killing each other?'...'Who cares who that person chooses to love?'...'Why are all these people messing with me?'...'Maybe I should stop living this crazy life...maybe not.'.  There are many beautiful relentless burnouts out there who would thoroughly enjoy a little Atomic Brothers.

Based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, the Atomic Brothers are a young band, the oldest member clocking in at twenty-five. They are a completely original band, the songs on their debut album representing not even one fourth of their catalog. They are a reckless band and have been known to make no sense whatsoever when spoken to. They have played live since the summer of 2002 and have received great responses from crowds numbering up to two thousand. They are comfortable putting on their own show or sharing the stage with others who are on the drive. R&dB can complement many different genres and the roster of bands Atomic Brothers have played with artists that range in style from folk groups like Chris & Kate Fenner, to punk groups, like The Delegates, to acid jazz outfits like Kobayashi. The Atomic Brothers is an extremely creative collective with focused ideas about how the voice of the relentless burnout should be heard, and possess all the various skills necessary to complete this mission.
