Ashley Raines short career speaks for it self. Signing with Howlin Dog Records in the fall of 1999, and releasing 'Th' Roads We're On' and then 'These Haunted Streets' in the spring of 2000, Ashley has sky rocketed at a break neck pace. Shortly there after Ashley moved to Los Angeles and recorded with David Baerwald (tuesday night music club, sheryl crow), as well buliding lasting relationships with Phil Roy (songwriter, Ray Charles, Aaron Nevelle) and Leonard Cohen's son Adam Cohen. Ashley Raines uses lap steel and acoustic as well as various unique gutiars (high strung) to convey the message of music. His voice is that of a wayward angel and the lyircs speak of everything from being 'sick in the head' to accepting that 'its just become a habit' and then the redemption of letting go. Ashley Raines music over the last few years has matured, and the lyrics that come from this twenty six year old have matured with it.
Being adept at many instraments (acoustic, electric, high strung, piano, drums, mandolin, lap steel, dobro, wiessenbourn, bass, percussion) has kept Ashley busy with recording on other artist albums and demos (ILA, 'Beautiful Woman', Alissa Moreno, 'CakeWalk.) Ashley Raines brings his unique blend of 'Band-in-the-box' gutiar style and sharp wit to each recording he has worked on.
In the spring of 2000, Ashley shared the stage with artist like Tim Reynolds & Don Conoscenti,(Mystic Hot Springs Music Fest, Monroe Utah) and Jack Ingram & The Beat Up Ford Band, as well as opening for acts like The Kenny Neal Blues Band and Mohead. In 2001 Ashley moved to L.A.Ca, where he recorded with David Baerwald on Ashley's song 'All Thats False'. Shortly thereafter, Ashley took leave to begin working on his third album. Tenitively titled 'Sick' and looking to be released in the summer of 2002, 'Sick' will include a new direction for Ashley. Having more of a R&B flavor and soulful vocals, 'Sick' deals more with loss and letting go. The song 'Hands' is about a child, who after years of abuse takes his fathers gun and, full of remorse, ends the abuse. the song 'Habits' deals with habitual life. On 'Beautiful', Ashley questions if he is strong enough, good enough. 'Soul Deep' is the story of love lost in an aborted birth, and the scars that it leaves, and the title track 'Sick', makes the statement, 'I know I'm not that handsome baby, but baby I could learn, just give me one more romp between your covers.'
Look for Ashley's new album out this summer on Howlin Dog Records.
