Brewed in the Flint, MI indie hardcore scene, Ari Thanos stands out as a diamond in the rough; a true novelty in a cloud of uniformity. Starting as a one man solo/acoustic project (A Beautiful Ransom), it was evident that the music would not reach its true potential. Over the course of two months, 4 members were added to the line-up, in hopes of creating a richer sound; The outcome of such a collaboration needs to be heard, to be fully appreciated.
Softly sung vocals (which focus on many aspects of man's relationship with God) careen the edges of characteristic guitar-work: clean folky strummings meet punk influenced chugging and riffing. The rhythm section proves itself unparalled, as well. Intricate bass lines meet shredding chord work, as jazzy kit-work sporadically transforms into hardcore blasting. To top it off, warm cello graces the music, flowing between angular tonal collisions. The amalgam off such varied tones should present itself as unnerving, however... it works.
In fact, It worked well enough to attract the attention of master engineer, Marc Jacob Hudson (Saves the Day, Kid Brother Collective). In June, 2004, we entered the studio to record our first album. 'The Grace of Fashion is Dead' is the result, the proud brain-child of months of work. So what lies ahead for the band?
With such a strong lyrical emphasis on living a Christian life, we have hopes of not only creating musical intrigue, but also scratching a deeper itch: Where does God fit in MY life? He has worked miracles in ours, giving us the talent and drive to create music. It is the least that we can do to dedicate our songs in glorification of his name. In doing so, we hope to garner God's help in unraveling the layers of pride that we hide behind, so that, in turn, we learn the true value of Jesus' love and sacrifice. In the coming months/years/whenever, we hope to nourish a growing love for Jesus and to have that flourishing seed find its way into others hearts, whether it be through performance, our recordings, or just friendly chit-chat.
