American Voice Syndrome
Band Biography

  • From: Fleet, England
  • No. of Members: 3
  • Year Established: 2002

American Voice Syndrome formed in January 2002. Consisting of its original 3 members, it has expanded itself musically and geographically (guess where I got that from). AVS have played several gigs, both on home soil and at further places such as London, playing in venues where such bands as The Police, U2 and Madness started out. At one point AVS had a fourth member, but decided it was not particularly beneficial and that they were neater with just 3 anyway. As friends we have known eachother as long as we have been together as a band, as we each met for the first time at college (high-school). We have just finished our second demo CD of 13 tracks, featuring not only fast moving punk, but touches of metal and funk too. We are looking to move on to bigger and greater things, and will be gigging regularly around the south of England this summer.

AVS consists of Phil Vincent on electric guitar and vocals, Scott Miller on bass and vocals, and Si Porter on drums. Phil has been playing guitar for 5 years and Scott and Si have been playing their instruments for 9 years. Each member played in the college big band, which featured styles of Jazz, Blues, Samba and Swing. Si has played in many high-profile venues such as the Millenium Dome and the Royal Albert Hall where he played to over 6,000 people with his ensemble to which he is a member. This range of musical experience has helped AVS in performing and song-writing.

Since the beginning of the year (2002), AVS have played all around their home county and in further places also such as London. They got their first gig just a month after they had formed and a month and a half since they were together the won their college battle of the bands, beating some 20 other local bands who had been together not so much months, but years. AVS have supported/played alongside such local bands as Workin' Lunch with Lucky Goldstar, Lotus, Pearly, Good for Nothing and Lost Hour. AVS once had a 2nd guitarist, Chris Hill, but the band decided that a 2nd guitar was not particularly beneficial and so he left.
